Basic Eligibility for CalFresh
Generally, you may be eligible for CalFresh benefits if you meet the following requirements
- Receive CalWORKS or General Relief
- Have low-income or even no income
- Having limited property
- Are a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident
- Are an immigrant that meets certain criteria
- If you Receive Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payment
Minimum Requirements to File a CalFresh Application
- Applicant’s full name and Household’s address unless the applicant is homeless district address is acceptable)
- Signature of any adult household member, Head of household, authorized representative, or any responsible household member
- The ways mentioned below are used to apply for Calfresh
- The applicant can in person through a Drop Box that is located at any DPSS District Offices
- In person with any of the Outreach partners of CalFresh
- By Mail to any local DPSS District offices
- By Fax at (310) 215-8220

- Visit the https://dpss.lacounty.gov/
- On the page there is a MY DPSS option that is located on top of page
- After clicking login page is opened where the existing user needs to provide a username and password.
How Does Calfresh Work?
- Apply and county will call the applicant within a week or 2 for an eligibility interview
- If the applicant is approved he/she will get an EBT(Electronic Benefits Transfer) card for groceries within 10 days
- EBT cards work in almost all the food stores and in farmers' markets
- The applicant only needs a copy of ID, Proof of any income, and for non-citizens proof of immigration status
