Regular Driver License (Class D)
A Class D License or regular driving license is essential for operating a passenger vehicle whose gross weight and rating are 26,000 pounds or less. The vehicle cannot be used for the transportation of hazardous materials and cannot carry more than 15 passengers along with the driver. The vehicle cannot be used as a school bus. Drivers need the following documents while applying for a Regular Driver License:
- U.S. citizenship or legal presence Proof
- Social Security Number Proof
- Ex. Social Security Card, W-2, payroll check stub, 1099
- Two proofs of Tennessee residency

Drivers have to submit original or certified documents. Photocopies will not be attended to by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
