How to Check MetroCard Balance

MetroCard holders can check the available balance in cards by using the below means:

  • Subway Station Booth Reader: At every train station operated by MTA, has booth readers. Go to the Metrocard Booth Reader and swipe the card. The booth reader screen will display information like like balance, expiry date and Pin change.
  • Metrocard Machine: Card balance can be checked by using a Metrocard machine. Insert the card into Metrocard machine and Click on the "Get Info" button. The machine will display information like card types, balance and expiry. Select "Balance" and click "Ok" to check the balance.
  • Subway Turnstile: The subway trunstile display the amount paid for tickets and balance remaining in the cards. Check the balance at Turnstile, every time after buying tickets.
