It offers support to students, faculty, and communities, fostering collective knowledge in the pursuit of social justice, civic engagement, and societal transformation. The primary objective of the center is to cultivate intellectual, educational, economic, and social resources. Various programs are administered by the public service center, including the following:
American Cultures Engaged Scholarship (ACES)
This program targets graduate students, empowering them to participate in community projects. It also facilitates community development, course design, and logistical management.
Alternative Breaks
During spring breaks, students engage in self-directed learning experiences. The center facilitates understanding of issues such as immigration, environmental justice, public health, and poverty.
Bridging Berkeley
This program focuses on mathematics instruction, aiding students in comprehending mathematical models, fostering flexible thinking, and exploring multiple solutions.
Public Service Internship Programs
Students commit 8-10 hours per week throughout the academic year to this program. Field trips are organized to expose students to various community issues and engage them in hands-on work.
Residential Service Initiative
Led by students, this initiative establishes residential hall services for the 6,500 students residing on campus.
